This is Larry, he is about 2 years old and has been in the shelter for over 500 days. He makes the most of his time at the shelter loving on the staff and playing with toys. He would love to find a foster home for a while to get out of the shelter and into a home. He is a very sweet guy who just needs a couch to crash on for a while to get a break.
While many dogs and cats available for adoption are young, healthy and great with other people, dogs and cats, it can take a long time for us to find them homes of their own.
Large breed dogs can be a challenge to adopt in Albany, often due to rental or home-owners association restrictions. We have a lot of fabulous dogs here who end up staying in our shelter for weeks to months or longer. They really need a break from shelter life. Fostering is the key to helping them re-charge, just for a bit they get a new home and walks in your neighborhood.
This January, we are asking our Albany dog lovers to take home a long-stay resident for five days (or longer).
Fostering is a great New Year’s resolution, if you want to make a big impact in a short amount of time. It’s so rewarding, for both the foster and the dog.
The Albany Humane Society is dedicated to the welfare of animals who cannot speak for themselves.
If we are to continue meeting the needs of hungry, sick and homeless animals, we will need your help. We presently provide housing for the animals of Albany and Dougherty County. We accept strays turned in by concerned citizens, as well as pets surrendered by their owners. We are currently on the path to no-kill!
Our goals are:
Educating the public about their pets.
Reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter initiatives.
Provide compassionate care for unwanted animals.
Thank you for your support!!
Albany Humane Society provides:
