Atlas’ Journey: A Dog Waiting Too Long

Atlas arrived at Albany Humane on October 14, 2022—full of hope, tail wagging, ready for a fresh start. But as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, he watched as countless dogs found their forever homes… while he remained.

For over 480 days, Atlas has been patiently waiting, never losing his gentle spirit or his love for belly rubs and playtime. He’s a loyal, loving pup who just needs someone to see the incredible dog he is.

Could you be the one to finally give him the happy ending he deserves? Come meet him today and change his journey forever.

It's All About the Animals!

Our Mission and Goals

The Albany Humane Society is dedicated to the welfare of animals who cannot speak for themselves.

If we are to continue meeting the needs of hungry, sick and homeless animals, we will need your help.  We presently provide housing for the animals of Albany and Dougherty County.  We accept strays turned in by concerned citizens, and both Albany City and Dougherty County Animal Control, as well as pets surrendered by their owners. We are proud to say we reached no-kill status in 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023. As an open admission shelter taking in 100s of animals per month, we strive to remain no-kill (90% live release rate) and are currently on the path to no-kill in 2024!

Our goals are:

Educating the public about their pets.
Reduce pet overpopulation through spay/neuter initiatives.

Provide compassionate care for unwanted animals.

Thank you for your support!!

Albany Humane Society provides:
Adoptions
Humane Education

Microchipping to assist as many returns to owner as possible.
